harmony
By Kate Marco
the beginning of life
doesn’t necessarily commence at birth,
some souls take time
settling into skin,
others,
land with heels worn,
to this experience on earth.
once arrived
we move with awkwardness,
then slowly we begin to dance,
to a soundtrack
that is only ours.
over time we learn to hum,
the uniqueness of our melody.
we sense the rhythms all around,
presenting opportunities,
to harmonize with nature,
to collaborate our human voice,
creating symphonies in tune,
to the sharing of our songs.
keep your ears
on high alert
and discern
our every note,
especially those off key.
tell your feet
to keep on dancing,
through the thousands of distractions,
that keep you out of tune.
lift your voice
and sing,
as loudly as you can,
stand on tiptoes,
if you must,
to reach
the higher notes.
