Longing to be Home
By Robert Henssler
Road is long
Dust devils blowing along the way
The center line does not change the path
Angels reigning across this endless plain
Kansas to the panhandles
Silos
the only high
Towns of crumbling walls
All
not wanting to die
Earth bleached rises
Behind multi ganged plows
As John Deere races along
Following some plotted course
Stewards of the land
Thinking
giving the gods a hand
Planting endlessly
seeds
Could just as well be sand
Never mind
nature’s will
Never mind
Eon’s life
Never mind
Bison trailed
Hither and yon
Taking
Giving
Body and soul
