Tiny Treasure
By Jerry E. Cornwell
Jewels grow under great pressure
shrouded in black mists and Earth’s embrace.
Corridors of mantle heat, steam and silence
conspire to create a gem, crystal or birthstone.
A careless sun reveals the world
Distant stones patiently create a masterpiece.
Our eyes desire color, forests and water
Nature designs her rainbow decoys
Lures to catch our eye.
From sleep we wend a tapestry, knit dreams, weave meaning
for morning’s smiles and footsteps.
Miles below diamonds, rubies and emeralds
strain to clarify, harden and sparkle,
striving to form a miracle from nothing.
And find light.
